Chatterbox – Salesforce.com launching rival to online storage provider Dropbox at Dreamforce 2012

At the TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2012 event, salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff announced Chatterbox, a rival to online storage providers like Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, and others.

About competitors, Computerworld reports Benioff said:

“We’ve invested in a couple of them, we compete with a couple of them, we partner with a couple of them, and that’s kind of the nature of the industry.  Our industry is not about the Hunger Games. I don’t look at our industry as a zero sum game.”

At Dreamforce, in addition to Chatterbox, salesforce.com is expected to discuss

  1. its Work.com human resources software,
  2. a new Marketing Cloud, and
  3. Identity, which provides single sign-on for multiple cloud applications at once (similar to Okta).

GigaOM reports Benioff said:

“Next week at Dreamforce we have our Okta competitor coming out which is Salesforce Identity, we have our Box competitor coming out which is called Chatterbox, and we have our Asana competitor Do.com.  So it’s competition. It’s good.”
